Nissan 350Z Spark Plugs: DE vs HR - What Do You Need?

Not sure which spark plugs your Nissan 350Z needs?

The first thing you need to know is whether your 350Z has the VQ35DE or VQ35HR engine.

The spark plugs are different, so don't just search for "350Z spark plugs" and assume every option will fit.

350Z DE vs HR

The easiest way to narrow it down is:

350Z DE: generally 2003–2006

350Z HR: generally 2007–2008

Your engine is the important part when choosing spark plugs.

350Z DE spark plugs

If your 350Z has the VQ35DE, Zend It currently offers several spark plug options specifically listed for the DE.

Bosch FR8ME

The Bosch FR8ME is listed specifically for the 350Z DE.

Other 350Z DE options

Zend It also carries other spark plug options for the VQ35DE, giving you a choice depending on the brand and specification you're looking for.

350Z HR spark plugs

The later VQ35HR uses a different spark plug application.

One option currently available from Zend It is the:

Bosch VR7NII33X Double Iridium

This plug is listed for the 350Z HR and 370Z.

This is a good example of why checking your engine before ordering matters. The DE and HR should not simply be treated as the same application.

How many spark plugs does a 350Z need?

The 350Z has a V6 engine, so you need:

6 spark plugs for a complete set.

Always make sure you order the correct quantity and application for your engine.

When should you replace your spark plugs?

Spark plugs are a normal maintenance item and can be worth checking when your Z is being serviced, particularly if you don't know when they were last replaced.

Possible signs of an ignition problem can include:

Rough idle

Hesitation

Misfires

Poor acceleration

Hard starting

These symptoms can have several possible causes, so a misfire doesn't automatically mean the spark plugs are the problem.

Don't buy by "350Z" alone

This is the important part.

Before ordering, check whether your car is:

350Z DE

or

350Z HR

The correct spark plug depends on the engine.

Zend It's catalogue separates products by 350Z DE, 350Z HR and 370Z, making it easier to find the correct application.
