The OEX WP8345X is the replacement water pump for the Nissan VQ35DE, VQ35HR, VQ37VHR, and VR38DETT engine families covering the full 350Z Z33 production run, the 370Z Z34, the GT-R R35, and their Infiniti equivalents. Unlike most engines, the VQ series water pump is chain driven and sits inside the engine block rather than on the front of the engine. It is one of the most labour intensive service items on the VQ platform, making it essential to fit a quality replacement that will not require the job to be repeated.
The VQ35DE water pump sits deep in the engine block and is driven by the timing chain. Access requires removal of significant front-end components and partial disassembly of the timing chain cover. Because the job overlaps directly with the timing chain, front crankshaft seal, and camshaft seals, most workshops and engine builders treat a water pump replacement as the trigger to refresh all timing-end components at the same time.

This is one of the most labour intensive jobs on the VQ platform. The water pump is located inside the engine block driven by the timing chain access requires significant front-end disassembly. Pay close attention to O-ring fitment during installation: the pump uses two O-rings separating coolant from oil, and a failed outer O-ring can cause coolant to enter the front cover and oil sump, replicating the symptoms of a head gasket failure. Always replace both O-rings and apply the correct Nissan RTV at designated sealing points per the factory service manual. Because of the labour overlap, it is strongly recommended to replace the front crankshaft seal, camshaft seals, and timing chain tensioner at the same time.
